Kitchen Display System (KDS)
Also calledKDSKitchen screen
A kitchen display system is a screen in the kitchen that receives orders from the tills, waiters and online channels and shows each item at the station that prepares it.
A KDS replaces printed kitchen tickets with a screen per station, such as grill, cold, bar or dessert. It shows how long each order has waited and lets the cook mark items done, so the pass knows when an order is complete.
Worth knowing
- One order can split across several stations automatically: the burger to the grill, the drink to the bar.
- Modifiers and allergy notes show on the screen with the item, which cuts mistakes on complex orders.
- Many kitchens keep a printer as a backup for when a screen is out of action.
