WPS, the UAE Wage Protection System, is the system through which private-sector employers registered with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation pay salaries electronically through approved banks and exchange houses.
Each pay run, the employer sends a salary information file in the required format to its agent bank or exchange house, which pays the employees and reports the payment. This lets the ministry check that wages are paid in full and on time.

- Each employee’s bank account or salary card details must be on file before payroll can run.
- Late or missing salary payments can lead to penalties, so payroll dates need watching.
- Saudi Arabia uses a separate wage protection system with its own requirements.
